Is it just me?

Is it just me, or is everyone starting to get married nowadays? Maybe it's going to a school with the nickname BYU-I DO, maybe it's my generation, maybe it's just life and I never opened my eyes to realize that no one is getting any younger.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing the matter with getting married at all. What an awesome thing to be able to be together for eternity! It's one of those big life events that everyone, me included, look forward to with that "someday" vision. I just feel so..young. I used to look at pictures of weddings and brides and think of how much older than me they were. How grown up they looked. Now I see wedding pictures of my friends popping up all over the place, and all I can think is: Wow, they just look like kids! Not old at all.

I was talking to my friend the other day (who is married) and he mentioned that he had predicted one of my old friends from high school wouldn't last a year without getting married. It's been just a little over a year, but he was pretty close. And then he said that she just seemed like the type who would get married young.

It really made me wonder: Am I the type that people think will get married young? Or do I appear as the type who will be gray haired and wrinkly by the time I meet that certain boy? I never even thought about "types" until I heard my friend say that. What even determines what "type" you are anyways?

So far, I personally suppose I am not quite ready to be married yet. I still have to grow up a little bit on my own;but I'm glad for all the kids my age who are styling the left handed diamond rings. In the meantime, I will still be here, with marriage as a someday in my eyes, amid all the the flocks of wedding doves at BYUI.

Lessons Learned: 1 year down.

7 roommates, 2 semesters, and many dance parties later, I made it through my first year of college. I had some great experiences, some terrible days, and in the middle somewhere I learned a few things too.

Lessons Learned from my freshman year

1. Learning doesn't just take place in a classroom; I can learn from everything and everyone around me if I simply look around.

2. It's ok to skip homework once in a while and enjoy the day.

3. I like having someone to talk to right before I sleep and when I wake up. Hooray for an awesome roommate!

4. Forgive and forget.

5. Boys usually aren't worth too much of my time, and if he is...make sure of it before giving away precious time.

6. Rexburg is a time warp. It really is-I'll have to find the switch to turn it on & off.

7. I can now run up the hill to church in a dress-IN HEELS- in 3 min. flat. Whoever didn't offer me a track scholarship would regret it if they could only see.

8. Talk to people. Be the first to say hello.

9. Time and distance doesn't mean you have to lose good friends.

10. Don't give up. Ever.

11. Music, ice cream, and sleep can usually fix anything.

12. Exercise. consistently.

13. I learned how to blow fire http://www.facebook.com/#!/video/?of=100000177352446 (Yet I can't get a link to work on my blog, so just copy and paste. Maybe NEXT year I'll have to learn that? ;)

14. Listen to other people. This is can be different than agreeing.

15. It's ok to get older. I suppose.

Going Back

In each end there is a new beginning. At least that's what they say. This school year has been unlike any other, with lots of growth, trials, and good times. Each time I would come back to school from home, it felt like I was entering a whole different world than the one I was leaving, all within just a short half hour drive.

But it kind of IS a whole different world.
This year has been full of so many changes, and now it's just the weirdest feeling to go back to a place where things are still just as I left them. I feel like life should be completely different when I go back, because it's been a year full of so much change. Yet, it won't be. It's just the same as I left it. It's a comforting thought, but at the same time, I always have that ever looming time coming when things will change for good and going home will be a very different experience than it is now.

Some say it's ridiculous to worry about such things when they are so far off. In my case, (just as it happened last year with college) things that I don't want to happen or worry about, seem to have their own special way of sneaking up on me before I am ready.

Will I ever be ready? Some days, yes. Most days- nope. So I guess that's some of it, but still. It feels weird to go back to a place that is all too familiar, where not much is different. And I am dreading the scary day when all of that will change.

Yep, I'm not going to lie...I am scared crazy out of my mind.
